Prevent problems before they happen back up your hard drive!
This section will inform you about a wide variety of hard disk problems. Such as data corruption to problems with setup. The two major types of problems that you can have are physical problems witch are do usualy due to the manufacturer and should be reported to their the technical support group. The second is major problem is data corruption on the hard drive. Which occurs when there is data corruption that can be seen as error sines but is overpassed by the systems troubleshooter.
Physical problems
The first thing to do when troobleshooting a hard drive is to find out if it is a physical problem. This is quite easy to do. If you hear any unusual noises(clinking, scraping, ect.) or you see or smell smoke you know it is a physical problem. {To detect the type of problem from the sound that it makes click this link: Sounds}. If it is a physical problem do not get upset and do anything irrational this can turn into more damage to the drive. Write down all the information that you can remember that was on that drive and the manufacturer's name. Next, call or email a company that can restore hard drives. Most of the time they will be farmilar with the problem from that manufacturer and may be able to instruct you in how to fix the problem yourself. However if the information on the drive is very important contact a recovery company as quickly as possible because the longer you wait the more expensive and lees likely it will be to recover the data.
Corruption
When the hard drive is corrupted in this case some or all of the files are altered or inaccessible. Any changed or lost data can fixed by downloading a recovery software. Make sure to check that the software has gotten good reviews at more that one site or magazine. If the software doesn't work contact the company that made the software. The files may be irretrievable and any programs will have to be reinstalled unless your data is backed up and can be restored.
Resurrecting a Hard Drive
Although I only recomend this to very skilled individuals who are extremely carefull, extremely good with small parts, and are perfectionists. Here is a site that tells how to put the data from a fried hard drive into a new hard drive physically:
Hard Drive Resurrection
System Restore Disk + back up drive With CD
This disk will reset your hard drive once it fails. This disk should come with your computer. Once this CD is uploaded it will set your hard drive back to factory settings. You cannot take a different back up CD from 1 type of computer and put it on a different type of computer. This will mess up your hard drive.
